Bike Friendly Kalamazoo has received generous last-minute contributions that are turning BFK’s Fall Bike Celebration into an unexpected fundraising opportunity for a number of groups whose mission is aligns with Bike Friendly Kalamazoo’s.
Contributions will be made in the form of a simple challenge:
– it applies to anyone who registers online for BFK’s Fall Bike Celebration Ride and/or Awards & Recognition Dinner (anyone means it extends to children listed in Family registrations)
– registration must be completed online on/by September 17, 2019 on a first-come, first-served basis via the secure services of BikeReg at https://www.bikereg.com/bfk-fall-bike-celebration
– when asked to fill in “Riding Club, Group or Charity Affiliation” field, registrants MUST enter one of the 501c3 organizations from the list below.* If multiple organizations are listed, only the first one found eligible will be recognized.
Depending on how many sign up per the above, the actual donations to each bike-related charity could range between $10-$100-250-$500+ in $5 increments.** BFK is administering the donations made through the challenge; the funds are not “coming out of” BFK ticket prices.
The donors know there is not much time between now and when online registration closes. The deadline is necessary to help ensure we don’t order more or less food than needed if at all possible. Day-of event registration will still be available, although ineligible for this challenge; LMB’s $1/rider program and BFK’s “Great Clubs, Great Riders” program will still apply.

**The donation is based on $5 for each registered rider and/or each dinner-goer, up to $10 per person. This is above and beyond BFK’s publicly advertised “Great Clubs, Great Riders” and LMB’s $1 per Rider program, but in the same spirit. It will not reduce BFK’s own proceeds; some of the challenge funds not used in in this challenge may or may not be donated to Bike Friendly Kalamazoo.
This is a good faith gesture on the part of the donors, who are hoping BFK will implement this “honor system” offer and in that same good-faith spirit, within the reasonable limits that BFK faces as a 501c3 — for example, no donations will be made to individuals, the donor expects the funds to go to IRS-current nonprofits, etc. Funds are to be distributed a fiscally prudent manner, etc. within the same general framework BFK applies to our own Great Clubs, Great Riders program (see link on the www.fallbikecelebration.org website). As of this date, the challenge will end as of 11:59pm on September 17, or when the funds to be contributed amount to $5,000. Depending on demand, online registration may close before this time.
